With humble excitement and gratitude it may be announced that the first volume of Prof. David J. Engelsma's work on Reformed Theology is now available from the publisher. Prof. Engelsma is the emeritus professor of Reformed Dogmatics and Old Testament Studies at the Protestant Reformed Theological Seminary, where he taught for twenty years (1988-2008).
The Reformed Free Publishing Association, publisher of all the major writings of Prof. Engelsma, provides this description of the work:
"Reformed Theology represents a succinct expression of David J. Engelsma’s decades-long
ministry spent pastoring, preaching, writing, and teaching. Comprised of revised and expanded notes from Prof. Engelsma’s seminary class on Reformed dogmatics, this book ably summarizes many years of ministry into a helpful outline on Reformed dogmatics. In addition, Reformed Theology shows forth Engelsma’s love for God and commitment to his truth as expressed in the Reformed faith.
"This book is volume 1 of 2. Volume 1 includes an introduction to the study of dogmatics, theology, anthropology, and Christology."
The book is offered in a beautiful hardcover edition of 440 pages and retails for $59.95, but an ebook edition is also available. If you join one of the RFPA's book subscription levels, you can save considerably on the cost. For example, at the "committed reader" level you may obtain the book for $15 off, at $44.96.
You are encouraged to visit the RFPA's website where you may also download a sample of the book. Here is a brief excerpt from the author's "Foreword," a part of the publisher's free sample (along with the "Introduction"):
"The author of this work is confident that the reader of these volumes will learn the Reformed tradition, beginning with Calvin—indeed something of the Christian tradition going back to some of the earliest church fathers. The reader will be confirmed in the creedal Reformed faith, both that of the three forms of unity and that of the Westminster standards. He will be alerted to the main threats to the Reformed, Christian faith today. And, most importantly, he will on every page (such was my purpose and such is my confidence) be confronted by the gospel message of holy Scripture."
